On my bookshelf…
…there is a shelf which holds
nothing but books on religion.
I consider myself neither a preacher
or a disciple, merely one who
seeks the elusive path.
…there is a shelf which holds
nothing but business books.
I consider myself neither successful
or a leader, merely one who
struggles amidst greater dreams.
…there is a shelf which holds
noting but old atlases.
I consider myself neither traveled
nor experienced, merely one who
seeks more than familiar roads.
…there is a shelf which holds
nothing more than history tomes.
I consider myself neither knowledgable
nor learned, merely one who
strives to not repeat mistakes.
…there is a shelf which holds
nothing but poetry and literature.
I consider myself neither a poet
or an author, merely a man who
who searches for words.
…there is a shelf which holds
nothing but pictures of family.
I consider myself the luckiest of men.
being a seeker is a high calling itself…ha…i dont take much to what we call ourselves either…but your bookshelf sure sounds a lot like mine…
Oh this is great, I’m crazy for the ending.
I like all your shelves of books and photos – we seekers need them to feed us.
nice repetitive lines…i specially like “one / who seeks more than familiar roads”…and a lovely end…
I love “merely a man who searches for words”, and the shelf of family photos – true wealth!
I really enjoyed both the subtle variations in your refrain and the close; reminders of family and friends are so precious.
Wonderful theme/delivery. Well done!
All of it – awakened words here in this piece. My first visit here – and I’m comin’ back.
What a wonderful bookshelf.. but I do think you are a poet Mark… so probably you are a historian and a businessman as well 🙂
Wonderful theme, varied book shelf. You feel the things that are important, and you are a wonderful poet.
