Fallen

I was there
when she first spread her wings

I was there
when she learned to fly

I was there
when the winds failed

I was there
when she fell

I was there
when the chalk line was drawn

I was there
when they ignored the extra extremities

I was there
when reporters drew the wrong conclusions

I was there
when the feathers disappeared

I was there
when the tears began to fall

I was there
when shadows grew unchecked

I was there

  1. I can feel the horror of your scenario. Bravo.

  2. Misky

    Very powerful.

  3. I was there when they ignored the extra extremities – drew the wrong conclusions… Oh, I like where you went with this.

  4. ‘I was there
    when the feathers disappeared’

I love the whole idea of the poem, the literal and metaphorical possibilities, but this line is the one I felt the most.

    Keep writing.

  5. I am most fascinated by the witness (?) in this picture as well. Who is he, if he is a he? And why is he there? I agree with Debi about the lines, “I was there when they ignored the extra extremities – drew the wrong conclusions.”
    Powerful and thought-provoking.

  6. I like how you use ‘drawn..drew.’ A chilling tale.

  7. “when the feathers disappeared” <– great image!

Some of what I write is true, some is fiction; most is merely possibility.
