Dreams

In the one dream,
we sit by the water,
wait for words to come,
and listen as day
transforms to night.

In the other,
you do not object to being
presented with flowers,
eyes shining as your hand
eases into mine.

In each
there are
tears
and the fullness
of silence.

  1. So when is the book of lyrical poetry coming out?

  2. Lovely. Pretty words strung softly.

  3. Really like the soft tender tone and the imagery you created with it,

  4. I feel so overwhelmed by how good this is, that I don’t even know what to say. I sense despair, a refusal, or a break-up in the first (although perhaps it isn’t so). And I read the second as an accepted proposal (based on the clever “eyes shining as your hand” line break).

Also, I can’t help but morph “full” into “fool.” There IS a foolishness in getting married, in thinking everything is going to be super duper wonderful and romantic all the way through. It just doesn’t go that way. Not that it isn’t worth it, but that just isn’t a realistic expectation.

Certainly silence can be full in a good way, but it can also be foolish not to speak up and just give voice to your true thoughts and feelings, even if it makes you look like an idiot. I think I’d rather regret what I said than regret what I didn’t say.

    • Well, hello stranger… 🙂 perceptive as always. good to hear from you.

      • I was giddy to see your name on the list and pop over to see you. 🙂

      • I am so far removed from the ‘scene’ that when i do find time to write I do not even know where to post anymore. Most of the old haunts are shut down or getting little or no activity…

Well I’m following you now. So I’ll read anything you post. Dverse is still open. Prompts on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. There’s Magpie Tales. Real Toads. You would like that one: withrealtoads.blogspot.com. Oh, Poets United: poetryblogroll.blogspot.com. They have an open link on Sundays and prompts through the week. And I’d be happy to make you a word list. 🙂 Do you ever read De anymore? She does some other link-ups you can look into. I would love to do a word list with you and De again! You in?

      • A lot of the old places, will have to try and get back to participating. Of course I am in for a word list! Just bear with me on response time, crazy busy right now.

I’ll come up with something for you today. 🙂

  5. How lovely and romantic, Mark.

  6. This does show how the intent behind a gift and manner in which it is given is far more important than value. So well written Mark.

  7. Mark – this is so poignant – I very much like how delicately you draw the two sides and the contrast is subtle and gentle too … very beautifully done. Nice to read your work again.

  8. The fullness of silence – what a stunning line – too often we need to fill the gaps with noise but perhaps true understanding comes when we need not do that – two touching dreams

  9. Dream gently nudges us, mirroring experience. This is a beautiful piece of writing. Thanks for joining us at the Whirl this week, Mark.

Some of what I write is true, some is fiction; most is merely possibility.
