April for Fools

March made fools
of us all,
disguising the last
advance of winter
with warm winds
and false promises.

Stubborn, tired of
being indoors,
we salvaged coats
from the closet
and walked through
flurries of falling
snow and pear
blossoms.

.

Well, I could not let day one
of National Poetry month pass
and not post something. Odds are
against me getting in a post every day,
but I look forward to seeing what the month brings.

  1. Hope it brings more like this, Mark. So beautiful.

  2. i much prefer the blossoms over the snow personally but that is our spring this year it seems….enjoy the journey…i am ready to be outdoors…

  3. I’m with you on the blossoms though I fear the allergies… Still, there’s no peace without suffering. Lovely poem!

  4. The final imagery of snow and pear blossoms is so lovely.

Some of what I write is true, some is fiction; most is merely possibility.
