Misled

Men,
women,
damaged within by lust for —
a single wish —

power.

We are bound to our
favored flavor
of megalomaniac,
falsely believing
the thread of their thoughts
agrees with the way
we think (the ONLY possible
way for a sane person
to think).

They smile, give speeches,
shake hands, take the money
and make the promises.

All the while amused
when we believe their
purposes have anything
to do with us.

  1. I never read before writing my own Whirl piece, then this just came whirling across Facebook. Excellent and timely work, Mark. This is a strong piece with a universal thread. “We are bound to our favored flavor…” LOVE that stanza.

    I love this part:

    “favored flavor
    of megalomaniac,
    falsely”

  3. Lots of truth in this one, Mark.

  4. Mark, looks like you hit the proverbial nail on the head with this timely piece. Strong writing.

  5. Mark, a fine reminder of how we are so often misled. And how we mislead ourselves? Fine commentary, elegantly stated.

  6. Power, indeed, Mark…there’d definitely something out of balance in this area for sure. Stated well, Mark.

  7. dang, some hard turht in your social commentary…its not about the common man these days at all…because what are we really worth…a vote…but we dont pay the bills….

  9. Well-penned Mark and as others have said, so timely and true … so, so, true.

  10. Ain’t it the truth?
    Great piece!

Some of what I write is true, some is fiction; most is merely possibility.
