Conventions

The tantalizing tones of silken
voices slither from the screen,
oozing with confidence
and promises.

The tone contains an element
of banter, a monstrous private
joke most of the audience
is not privy to.

They throw words around
like water balloons, heavy and on
the verge of exploding on any
who try holding onto them.

Words representing concepts
they are obviously unfamiliar with.
Words like honor, duty, courage
and responsibility.

Simply words (weapons)
to the speaker, a means
to sway those to whom
they have meaning.

  1. A downbeat view of the conventions. But who doesn’t hold that view? 🙂

  2. honor, duty, courage
    and responsibility.

May that be the aspiration of all.

  3. “They throw words around
    like water balloons”

Absolutely perfect description. Is it December yet?

Some of what I write is true, some is fiction; most is merely possibility.
