Chemical Connections

It was really no surprise
when the best attempts
of the energetic internist
and his pharmaceuticals
could not return
her feckless knight
to the status of infallible
champion.

Gone was the relentless pursuit,
the alluring smile, infectious wit
and nights of entangled limbs.

He disappeared into his
electronics while she
turned to romance novels
and Prozac.

Modern medicine was simply
no match for apathy
and ennui.

  1. Wow talk about hitting it on the mark you did with this one!

  2. “Gone was the relentless pursuit,
    the alluring smile, infectious wit
and nights of entangled limbs.” … That’s exactly what happens when the guy finally gets the girl. He doesn’t really want her anymore. It’s always about the pursuit, isn’t it?

    Awesome: “Modern medicine was simply
    no match for apathy
    and ennui.”

This is spot on, Mark. Excellent piece! Loved it. 🙂

  3. Brilliant thinking AND poeming!

And once the status of infallible champion is lost, can it ever be regained? You captured this stage in a relationship well.
