Searching

Treetop coral filters
light through the veil
of humid air

I kick-shuffle among
the leaf litter and
fungus

uncovering dying tree
roots instead of hidden
universal truths

  1. “ncovering dying tree
    roots instead of hidden
universal truths” … Ugh, this is such a sad feeling. When you’re looking for truth and answers and all you find is darkness, loneliness, sadness, death.

But this is beautiful: “Treetop coral filters light through the veil of humid air”

This is a great metaphor, Mark—be there a literal walk taking place, or not. Thank you for writing.

  2. I love the way you used the words! Really gorgeous piece.

  3. Okay…that last stanza…yeah that brings a lump to throat…disappointment. Great flipside-wordling, Mark!

  4. Isn’t that so often how things are?

  5. Like I’ve always told Riley: “Wanting and getting are two different things… so keep searching until you find what you want, then determine whether it’s worth your effort to pursue.” There is so much truth in this, and it didn’t have that “forced” feeling of a wordle at all… no words shoehorned in to “fulfill” the wordle. Bravo! Amy

Some of what I write is true, some is fiction; most is merely possibility.
