The Costume

The essential high heel of the season, the lov...

She wore costume jewelry
and ridiculous high heels,

excessive make-up
and highlighted hair,

cigarette in hand
and a drink always
on the way.

Fear of ridicule
no longer a concern,
self esteem a thing
of the past.

Wanting to be noticed
now her greatest need.

  1. Wow.. very succinctly expressed! Enjoyed it…
    Old pages invite prying

  2. The typical barfly, but unfortunately she blends in with all the other needy. Well written.

  3. SO true that the more warpaint and frou-frou a woman wears, the less likely she has much in the way of self-esteem. How do I know? That was me! (ha ha, but actually not so funny in those days…) Great poem, original thoughts. Amy

  4. I wonder where her self-esteem went and whom she mnow wishes to attract. I’d like to know more about her.

  5. yep, I saw her on the corner of 5th and Vine…hoping for a gig and a bottle of wine

Some of what I write is true, some is fiction; most is merely possibility.
