Camping

Bungy cords and an old raincoat
form a tent,
hidden behind the bushes
under the billboard.

Scavenged cardboard serves
as pallet and placard,
shopping cart overturned
on the fire a cooktop,

trash bag of cans currency
for food. An umbrella shields
his sleeping eyes from
the blazing billboard lights.

Mega-Millions lottery
up to $14 Million!

I like. The scene is vivid and what a great piece of irony at the end. I find your description compelling.

  2. Nice final twist, and I’m glad that you inserted the photo at the end rather than the beginning.

    Oh, the irony. Nice.

  4. Ohhhh. This is powerful stuff. Goodness. Excellent.

  5. the irony and contrast make for a sharp pithy piece.

  6. Vivid, appropriate imagery. Very enjoyable.

Some of what I write is true, some is fiction; most is merely possibility.
