When the Dream Changes

The dream was always
the same —
sunset on the ocean,
clouds adding effect,
slight chill in the air —
but this time,
the man’s face was
out of focus,

This meant something
to her in the morning.

How appropo of my life right now.

    What does it mean?

That I’ve given up on him?

That I’ve decided I can live the dream complete, on my own?

That I’ve realized subconsciously I’m not ready for him?

Interesting poetry and vision, maybe even prophetic.

It’s scary to be called prophetic. Be careful with your words, Mark. 😉

Short poems are my faves because I can think more deeply about each line. I think this is exciting, a recurring dream changing. I’ll bet it did mean something to her in the morning! And I love that you didn’t tell us what. Great piece, Mark.

  3. Very mysterious. We are left with only being able to guess what it meant to her!

  4. Intriguing poem, and it does make the reader reflect. It took me back!!

  5. dreams can reveal so much once we wake up and ponder them…beautiful poem!

  6. Bam! Wow, that was incredible. What a stunning visual in that first stanza and then the one, two follow up with those last two lines. This was magnificent.

  7. Dreams are always about the dreamer ~ This can mean many things to us, but it depends on the dreamer ~

  8. Interesting. You chose to leave the reader hanging , with an ambiguous ending. And perhaps that is what is important in this piece.

Very nice Mark. Love that ending. Thanks

  10. I wonder what it meant to her…love a piece that ignites the imagination of the reader…perhaps it meant she could finally release herself from the man in the dream..

  11. Her dream finally changed… but was that a good thing or bad?

  12. Oh wow…what does the change in the dream mean? Very nicely done…leaves me wondering, and I like it!

Some of what I write is true, some is fiction; most is merely possibility.
