While She’s Away

She likes mint in her tea
with all natural sugar,

light salt on her popcorn at
the movies,but extra butter
and the perfect middle seat.

The smell of newly mowed
grass gives her a natural high,

only fresh cut aloe will suffice
for healing the sting of June
on her skin.

These are the thoughts that
sustain and nourish me in

her absence, allowing me to
drift into peaceful sleep while
I wait her return.

Some of what I write is true, some is fiction; most is merely possibility.
